Denmark is poised to take over the chairmanship of the Nordic Defense Cooperation (NORDEFCO) from Sweden on Jan. 1, 2024, said the Danish Ministry of Defense on Monday, reported Xinhua.

A central concern for Denmark's NORDEFCO presidency is the increased tension in the Baltic Sea region, as highlighted by recent disruptions to key infrastructure such as North Stream 1 and 2, and the Balticconnector pipeline, the ministry said in a press release.

Denmark's main priorities for its presidency are expected to be: implementing NORDEFCO's Vision 2030, maintaining various forms of support for Ukraine, strengthening security focus on the Arctic, North Atlantic, and Nordic regions, and reevaluating the organization's structure, it said.

NORDEFCO, which was founded in 2009, is made up of Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, and Denmark.
