Ex Russian president mocks Berlin govt over farm protests

Former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev has mocked Olaf Scholz over protests by farmers this week and predicted that the German chancellor will face difficulties going forward, reported dpa.
"Strikes in Germany: farmers have blocked much of the country. Subsidies have been ended, and astronomical amounts spent on Ukraine are still growing. And Germany is the main funder," Medvedev, who has also served as Russian prime minister in the past, wrote on the social media platform X on Monday evening.
If things continued like this, Medvedev claimed Ukrainian nationalists could soon export their protests to Berlin.
"In this case, it is highly doubtful that Scholz the Liver Sausage will hold out," he scoffed. In any case, Russia would follow the events with "malicious interest."
On Monday, farmers in Germany protested against planned cuts in agricultural subsidies, disrupting traffic in many places.
Moscow has repeatedly argued that Western aid to Ukraine and sanctions against Russia have led to economic difficulties in Germany.
Since the outbreak of Russia's war on Ukraine, Medvedev has been considered one of the hardliners in Moscow. He has repeatedly launched insults at leading Western and Ukrainian politicians.
