German prosecutors have launched a corruption investigation after police in Hanover regularly dined out on currywurst, with the instructor of a training course picking up the bill, reported dpa.
A total of 17 employees from Hanover's Central Police Directorate (ZPD) are under suspicion of accepting the free sausage soaked in curry ketchup, according to the local public prosecutor's office, a spokesman announced on Tuesday.
Currywurst is a beloved fast food dish in much of Germany.
The free sausage dinners allegedly took place over the course of 10 months and may have totalled as much as €2,000, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors suspect that the motive behind the alleged currywurst corruption may have been to sway course evaluations and win positive reviews from the students.
"That could be the case, and that is why we are obliged to look into it," said the spokesman for the public prosecutor's office.
