US Vice President Kamala Harris will attend the Munich Security Conference next week and deliver a speech at the gathering, the White House announced on Friday, reported Xinhua.

Harris will also meet other world leaders at the Munich conference on topics including the ongoing wars in Ukraine and Gaza, the White House said.

Last year, Harris also led the US delegation at the Munich Security Conference, a major gathering of security and foreign policy experts from around the world.

No US president, however, has ever attended the Munich Security Conference.

Around 50 world leaders, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, will attend the gathering, which begins on February 16 in Munich. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres will open the conference.

There are some expectations that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky may also attend the gathering, although that has not been confirmed.

Numerous ministers and other senior officials from around the globe are also expected to attend.

As last year, officials from Russia and Iran have not been invited.
