Russia will pursue legal action against anyone involved in decisions on the illegal use of the country's frozen assets, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday, reported Xinhua.

"Our position is simple and clear. We will pursue legal action against all those who are involved in such decisions, those who are involved in the decision-making process, and in the implementation of these decisions," Peskov said, adding that the country will defend its interests.

The statement comes amid a recent law adopted by the Council of the European Union on using profits generated from Russia's frozen assets. This move is seen as paving the way for the potential use of these profits to support Ukraine.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova also said on Tuesday that Russia will give a very tough response to any attempts made by Western countries to seize Russia's assets.

"This is theft. This is a misappropriation of what does not belong to them," Zakharova said.
