German man held on Spanish island for child porn

Police on the Spanish island of Mallorca have arrested a 50-year-old German citizen who allegedly downloaded and forwarded child pornography on the internet, reported dpa.

The man confessed when police officers surprised him during a raid on his apartment in the town of Palma, police announced on Sunday.

A police department specializing in cybercrime found that the man, who lived alone, had downloaded a large number of files containing child pornography from the internet between the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024 and also forwarded them.

A total of 4,776 photos and videos containing child pornography were found on the German man's computer.

In Spain, such cases can be punished with a prison sentence of between one and five years. Prison sentences of up to two years are usually suspended on probation.
