3 killed as passenger train hits car in Türkiye

Three people were killed on Saturday when a passenger train collided with a car at a level crossing in Türkiye's western province of Izmir, reported Xinhua, quoting local media reports.

Haberturk Daily reported that the incident occurred in the Menemen district, where a Turkish State Railways train traveling from Izmir to Usak province, central Aegean region, collided with the car, trapping three members of the same family inside.

Upon notification by local residents, search and rescue teams, gendarmerie, health and firefighting units were promptly dispatched to the scene, the report said. After coordinated efforts by the teams, the bodies of the three individuals were pulled out of the vehicle.

The cause of the accident remains unclear, and an investigation has been reportedly launched, it added.
