Severe storms struck Belgium on Thursday, causing significant flooding across several regions, reported Xinhua.

Picardy Wallonia was particularly hard hit, with flooded homes and mudslides disrupting the daily lives of residents.

In Brussels, several tunnels were closed due to flooding, leading to major traffic disruptions. Brussels firefighters received around 60 calls for weather-related interventions.

The Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM) issued a yellow storm warning for this afternoon, indicating that intense storms could still develop across the eastern part of the country. Authorities are urging caution and recommending that citizens limit non-essential travel.

Emergency services are on high alert, responding to emergency calls and intervening in the most affected areas. Teams of firefighters and civil protection are deployed to help residents impacted by the floods.

According to a monthly climate report published Thursday by the IRM, July set a new record as the tenth consecutive month to register above-average precipitation levels.
