Four people were killed and some others injured in a Ukrainian attack on Russia's Kursk region, which began on Tuesday, local media reported Thursday citing regional authorities, said Xinhua.

No deaths have been reported so far among hospitalized patients that were wounded in the attack, acting Deputy Governor of the Kursk region Andrei Belostotsky was quoted as saying.

Ukraine launched a massive attack on the defense positions in Russia's Kursk region at 8 a.m. local time (0500 GMT). Up to 300 soldiers from Ukraine's 22nd Mechanized Brigade, supported by 11 tanks and over 20 armored combat vehicles, attacked the Russian border defense positions near the settlements of Nikolaevo-Daryino and Oleshnya, the Russian Defense Ministry said Tuesday.

Russian forces are currently "conducting active operations in the Sudzha district" pushing troops away from the Russian border, Belostotsky added.
