State allowances for Romanian children will rise by 10.4 percent starting Jan. 1, 2025, according to a statement from the Ministry of Labor and Social Solidarity issued on Thursday, reported Xinhua.

The monthly allowance for children under two years old or with disabilities will increase from 719 lei (About 145 EUR) to 794 lei, while the allowance for children over two will rise from 292 lei to 323 lei.

Minister of Labor and Social Solidarity Simona Bucura Oprescu said that this increase will benefit approximately 3.6 million children and teenagers in high schools and vocational schools, with funding covered by the ministry's budget.

This follows a previous increase of 13.8 percent at the beginning of this year. As of August 2024, there were 3,478,329 beneficiaries of state allowances, with the highest numbers in Bucharest and several counties, including Iasi, Suceava, and Constanta.
