Prague firefighters successfully extinguished a fire that broke out on Tuesday afternoon in the historic National Theater building, a landmark in the Czech capital, reported Xinhua.

"The fire was successfully contained. About 100 people voluntarily evacuated from the building, and one person sustained injuries," the Prague Fire Brigade announced on the social media platform X.

The fire began in a dressing room at the National Theater shortly before 3 p.m. local time, with smoke visibly rising from the building's upper floors. Firefighters acted swiftly to control the situation, ensuring no further danger of the fire spreading.

Although the blaze has been extinguished, emergency crew members are continuing to scan the area for potential hot spots using thermal imaging cameras. According to the Czech News Agency, the fire originated in a service shaft containing water and heat piping.

The incident caused temporary disruptions to public transportation, with tram services briefly halted, and nearby streets closed to motor vehicles, as reported by the local transport operator.
