2 children found dead at home in southern Germany

The bodies of two children and their injured mother were found in a house in the southern German city of Rosenheim on Christmas Day, police reported in a statement on Wednesday, said dpa.

An acquaintance called the emergency services after going to the house to check on the family and discovering the 39-year-old woman, the statement said.

According to the statement, investigators assume the woman killed the children, aged 6 and 7, with a tool on Tuesday or during the night before trying to kill herself.

The police took the woman to hospital, where she is now being monitored. Doctors say her health is stable.

Family members are being cared for by crisis intervention teams.

The background to the crime is still unclear and investigations involving the public prosecutor, forensic doctors and a forensic investigation team are ongoing, the police said.

There is no evidence to suggest the involvement of any other perpetrators, they added.
