A majority of Germans view the nomination of outgoing Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock for the presidency of the United Nations General Assembly negatively, a survey has found, reported dpa.
The survey released on Friday, conducted by YouGov on behalf of dpa, found 57% of respondents view Baerbock's nomination negatively (42%) or rather negatively (15%).
Only 12% and 16% of respondents viewed the nomination as positive or rather positive, respectively.
The survey of 2,144 people was conducted between March 21-24.
Baerbock, a Green party politician, is due to step down as foreign minister once a new governing coalition is formed, expected to be between the conservative CDU/CSU bloc and the Social Democrats.
The vote for the UN post takes place in June, and the role would start for a one-year term in September.
The president's job is to organize and chair the meetings of the UN General Assembly.
If her nomination is successful, Baerbock would replace the former prime minister of Cameroon, Philémon Yang.
