Bodies of two men and a woman were found in the German village of Weitefeld some 60 kilometres east of Bonn, reported dpa, quoting police on Sunday.
A spokesman said indications were that a family conflict was behind the discovery. He declined to be drawn on whether one of the male victims was a minor.
The crime scene, a detached family home, and the call to the police less than four hours after midnight were indications of a family conflict, he said. A police spokeswoman said that the person making the call was screaming.
A man is reported to have fled on foot as police arrived.
Police urged motorists not to pick up any hitchhikers in the region as they conducted a search for possible perpetrators. A large number of officers were called to the scene.
A dpa correspondent reported that special tactical police units with firearms and protective gear had been deployed to cordon off the area, and all cars travelling into and out of the area were being checked. A helicopter was also being sent.
Police said there was no immediate threat to residents.
