Eighty Russian administrative areas held regional and local elections Sunday with President Vladimir Putin visiting a polling station and voting, the Kremlin said.

Putin visited a polling station in the Russian Academy of Sciences building in Moscow and voted in the capital's mayoral election.

Over 4,700 elections at various levels were held across the country, with about 65 million people on the voters' lists, Tass news agency reported.

By-elections to the Duma, the lower house of parliament, were also held on the same day.
