Stockholm locked down due to poison letter incident

Several blocks in the central area of Ostermalm in Stockholm were quarantined after a suspected poison letter was discovered at a local company's office, the Swedish Television SVT reported on Wednesday.

The letter contained some kind of powder that is yet to be identified. SVT reported that three people suffered from breathing difficulties, among those the person who opened the letter.

A total of nine people were present in the office when letter was opened. All of them have been sanitized and taken to hospital for controls. According to the rescue services, none of the victims showed any further symptoms after they were taken went off with an ambulance.

The police will investigate the incident as an illegal threat.

"The letter's intention was to threaten its receiver. That is all we know for now. As soon as the rescue workers and the clean-up teams are done, the police investigation will take place," said the police's spokesperson Anna Westberg to SVT.

The rescue operation lasted for two hours causing only minor disturbances in the city center's traffic. According to officials, the incident did not cause any immediate threat to the public.
