A man was fined 2,000 pounds on Friday for "upskirting" a woman at a London tube station.

Hiroshi Yuasa, 38, was spotted crouching behind the victim at Victoria Tube station in central London in April 2018, taking a photograph up her skirt with his mobile phone.

Police who investigated then found several photographs and videos of women, "ranging from pictures of the face as well as pictures up the skirts". He was charged with outraging public decency, court documents said.

Yuasa, who lives in a flat in central London, was fined at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday and told to pay 400-pound compensation to his victim.

He was also told to pay 170-pound victim surcharge and 400-pound prosecution costs, according to local media reports.

Upskirting is set to become a criminal offence in the spring after new legislation passed its final legal hurdle in the British House of Lords last month.

The offence would carry up to a two-year jail sentence.
