The eleventh national climate march, initiated by the Youth for Climate movement, took place Thursday in Brussels and other parts of Belgium, local Belgian press reported.
Carrying slogans such as "We are hotter than the climate" and "The planet is too hot and the government does nothing", young demonstrators skipped school to call for action on climate change.
The biggest mobilization took place in Liège, where more than a thousand young people, supported by "yellow vests" and seniors, took to the streets in protest.
"After eleven demonstrations involving thousands of young people, politicians must know that the movement is not about to stop," said a representative of the Youth for Climate movement in Liège.
A thousand students, according to a police estimate, gathered shortly after 1:00 pm in the streets of Prime Minister Charles Michel's hometown of Wavre.
In Brussels, around 500 high school and university students demonstrated, which was a much smaller turnout than in previous marches.
Last week, the call for a global climate strike, inspired by Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg who protests against global warming weekly outside Sweden's parliament, brought together over 30,000 people in Brussels.
Young people plan to demonstrate every Thursday until the May 26 European Parliament elections to demand ambitious climate policy reforms.
