The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said Thursday it had detained in the North Caucasus republic of Dagestan a suspected member of a gang which organized a double terrorist attack in the Moscow subway in 2010.
The suspect was taken to Moscow for further investigative actions, it said in a statement.
On March 29, 2010, 39 people were killed and 129 others were injured in an attack carried out by two female suicide-bombers at two central Moscow subway stations.
The Russian special services, investigators and law enforcement agencies have since identified the organizers and perpetrators of the terrorist attacks.
During the investigation of the case, it was established that, prior to the Moscow explosions, members of the gang organized and carried out repeated attacks on law enforcement officers and public figures of Dagestan between 2008 and 2010.
Members of the group, led by Magomedali Vagabov, a resident of Dagestan, offered armed resistance and were eliminated in 2010. Another member of the group was found and killed in a shootout in 2013, according to the Russian Investigative Committee.
