The number of abortion in 2018 reduced significantly, particularly among the women under 20, compared to the number of the previous year, according to the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL).
A total of 8,600 abortions took place in 2018, which is the lowest since 1970, said a THL press release on Monday.
The abortion rate reduced significantly among the under-20 women posting a 16% drop in 2018 from that in 2017.
“The abortion among the youth reduced due to various reasons. Municipalities have been creating awareness among the youths through offering free contraception. At the same time, the internet has made it easier for young people to find information,” THL’s senior planner Anna Heino.
