Finns urged to avoid travelling to China´s coronavirus-hit regions

The government on Monday urged the country people to avoid traveling to the coronavirus hit regions in China.

The Ministry of Foreign Affair said that the authority was monitoring the coronavirus situation closely in cooperation with the other EU countries.

The ministry issued a recommendation saying that the citizens should avoid unnecessary travel to Hubei province. Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province from where the coronavirus outbreak is believed to start.

The ministry, however, said that the government has no plan at this moment to evacuate citizens who are staying in the affected areas.

Meanwhile, the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) has prepared guidelines for persons arriving in Finland from the epidemic area

Travelling in the Chinese province of Hubei, especially in the city of Wuhan, may involve some risk of Wuhan coronavirus infection, said a THL press release on Monday.

Individual cases among tourists may appear also in Finland. Rapid identification of cases is important so that measures can be taken to prevent other people from contracting the disease.

The THL is coordinating and monitoring the situation together with ECDC and WHO.
