8 more coronavirus deaths take death toll in Finland to 72

The coronavirus death toll in Finland has increased to 72 as eight more patients died in different areas of the country in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Wednesday.

Six of them died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), and one each in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS) and the Tampere-Pirkanmaa (TAYS) Hospital District.

Till Wednesday 49 patients had died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 17 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), three in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), two in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa (TAYS) Hospital District, and one in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa (OYS) Hospital District, said the THL.

The THL, however, did not divulge any details about the deceased, considering their confidentiality.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infection cases in the country has increased to 3237, as 76 more cases had been diagnosed till Wednesday.

A total of 2,038 of the cases were reported in the Uusimaa region and more than half of them in Helsinki.

Presently, 226 COVID-19 patients are undergoing treatment in different hospitals, including 75 in intensive care units.

Currently, laboratories are testing about 4,000 samples a day and their testing capacity is being increased gradually.

Meanwhile, the government has withdrawn the restrictions on movement in the Uusimaa region from Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier, the government imposed restriction on movement to and from Uusimaa from March 28 to contain the outbreak of coronavirus.
