The coronavirus death toll in Finland has increased to 90 as eight more patients- seven in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) and one in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS)- died in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Saturday.

Till Saturday a total of 61 patients had died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 20 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), five in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), two in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa (TAYS) Hospital District, and two in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa (OYS) Hospital District, said the THL.

The THL, however, did not divulge any details about the deceased, considering their confidentiality.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infection cases in the country has increased to 3681 as 192 more cases had been diagnosed in the last 24 hours till Saturday afternoon.

A total of 2 370 of the cases were reported in the Uusimaa region and more than half of them in Helsinki.

Presently, 199 coronavirus patients are undergoing treatment in different hospitals, including 70 in intensive care units.

Currently, laboratories are testing about 4,000 samples a day and their testing capacity is being increased gradually.

Meanwhile, the Helsinki and Uusimaa hospital district HUS said on Friday that the number of coronavirus death has been under-reported by dozens, reported National broadcaster Yle.

The regional hospital authority said that the THL's data does not include fatalities recorded at nursing homes.

The THL gathers its statistics from hospital districts, which in turn compile them from hospital records as well as municipalities and towns in their catchment area, the Yle report added.
