The coronavirus death toll in Finland has increased to 252 as six more people- five in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) and one in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS)- died in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Wednesday.

Till Wednesday, a total of 207 people died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 22 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), 10 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 10 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS), and three in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa (TAYS) Hospital District.

The identities of the deceased, however, could not be known as the THL did not divulge any details in this regard.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infection cases in the country has increased to 5573, as 161 more cases had been diagnosed in the 24 hours until Wednesday afternoon.

The number of coronavirus infections in Finland is likely to be much higher than is reported, as not all those with mild symptoms have been tested thus far and there is no data available on asymptomatic infections.

So far more than 3,500 patients have recovered from the disease, said THL.

Presently, 188 coronavirus patients are undergoing treatment in different hospitals, including 44 in intensive care units.

Currently, laboratories are testing about 6000 samples a day and their testing capacity is being increased gradually.

In relation to Finland’s total population (5,543,233), the prevalence of cases is 101 cases per 100,000 people, the THL report pointed out.
