9 more deaths,970 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 2 days

The coronavirus death toll in Finland increased to 408 as nine more patients died at different hospitals in the country in the last two days since Monday afternoon, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Wednesday.

Out of the deaths, five were reported in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), two in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), one in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS) and one in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa (TAYS) Hospital District.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 25,882 as 970 more cases were diagnosed in the last two days.

Out of the new cases, 550 infections were diagnosed on Tuesday and 420 on Wednesday, said the THL.

So far a total of 313 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 33 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), 23 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS), 22 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS) and 17 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa (TAYS) Hospital District.

Until Wednesday, 18,100 or more than 70% coronavirus-infected patients in Finland had recovered.

A total of 165 coronavirus patients, including 21 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,543,233), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 467 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 26,000 samples a day.
