6 more deaths, 258 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 24 hours

The coronavirus death toll in Finland rose to 616, as six more patients died at different hospitals in the country in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Thursday.

Out of the deaths, three were reported in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS), two in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) and one was reported in Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS).

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 39,593, as 258 new cases were diagnosed in the last 24 hours.

So far, a total of 417 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 73 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), 49 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa (TAYS) Hospital District, 43 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS) and 34 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 155 coronavirus patients, including 29 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,543,233), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 714 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 26,000 samples a day.
