5 more deaths, 496 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 24 hours

The coronavirus death toll in Finland rose to 660, as five more patients died at different hospitals in the country in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Wednesday.

Out of the deaths, two were reported in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), one was reported in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), one in Tampere-Pirkanmaa (TAYS) Hospital District and one in Turku Hospital District (TYKS).

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 43, 616 as 496 new cases were diagnosed in the last 24 hours.

So far 447 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 78 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), 52 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa (TAYS) Hospital District, 51 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS) and 32 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 148 coronavirus patients, including 20 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,543,233), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 787 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 26,000 samples a day.
