2 more deaths, 358 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 24 hours

The coronavirus death toll in Finland increased to 708 as two more patients- one in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) and another in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS)- died in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 49,165 as 358 new cases were diagnosed in the last 24 hours.

So far, 476 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 78 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), 67 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 55 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa (TAYS) Hospital District and 32 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 112 coronavirus patients, including 16 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,543,233), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 887 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
