3 more deaths,706 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 24 hours

The coronavirus death toll in Finland increased to 786 as three more patients died at different hospitals in the country in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Friday.

Out of the deaths, two were reported in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS) while the rest one was reported in Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS).

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 65,315 as 706 new cases were diagnosed in the last 24 hours.

The total number of the coronavirus variants increased to 1,736 in the country. Out of the cases 1,633 were UK variants, 102 South African variants, and one was Brazilian variant.

So far, 513 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 82 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 79 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), 65 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS) and 47 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 264 coronavirus patients, including 47 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1180 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
