3 more deaths, 842 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 24 hours

The coronavirus death toll in Finland hit 804 as three more patients died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) in the previous 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 68, 693 as 842 new cases were diagnosed in that time, said THL.

The total number of coronavirus variants remains at 1,736 in the country. Out of the cases, 1,633 were UK variants, 102 South African variants, and one was Brazilian variant.

So far, 523 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 84 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 79 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), 67 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS), and 51 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 278 coronavirus patients, including 56 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1,241 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
