4 more deaths, 726 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 24 hours

The coronavirus death toll in Finland increased to 815 as four more patients died at different hospitals in the country in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Thursday.

Out of the deaths, two were reported in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS) while one was reported in Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) and Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS) each.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 74, 242 as 726 new cases were diagnosed in that time.

The number of coronavirus variants in the country remains at 1,963. Out of them, 1,823 were UK variants, 139 South African variants, and one was Brazilian variant.

So far, 528 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 86 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 79 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), 69 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS), and 53 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 287 coronavirus patients, including 59 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1,341 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
