4 more deaths, 289 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 24 hours

The coronavirus death toll in the country has reached 885 as four more patients died in different hospitals in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Thursday.

Out of the deaths, two were reported in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), one was reported in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS) and one in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS).

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 83, 253 as 289 new cases were diagnosed in that time.

The number of coronavirus variants in the country remained at 3,621. Of them, 3,261 were UK variants, 359 South African variants, and one was Brazilian variant.

So far, 574 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 97 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 81 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), 78 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS), and 55 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 161 coronavirus patients, including 37 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the country.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1,504 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
