3 more coronavirus deaths, 25 infections of Indian variant detected

The country’s coronavirus death toll has reached 930 as three more patients- two in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS) and one in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS)- died in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 89, 270 as 280 new cases were diagnosed in that time.
The THL on Wednesday reported the infections of Indian variant for the first time, in addition to the previous UK, Africa and Brazilian variants.
The number of coronavirus variants in the country increased to 6, 424. Of them, 5,265 are UK variants, 1132 South African variants, 25 Indian variants and two Brazilian variants.
So far, 602 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 101 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 84 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS), 83 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), and 60 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).
A total of 114 coronavirus patients, including 24 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the country.
According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1,612 per 100,000 people.
Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
