8 more deaths, 244 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 3 days

The coronavirus death toll in the country has reached 956 as eight more patients died in different hospital districts in the last three days since Friday afternoon, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Monday afternoon.

Out of the deaths, five were reported in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS), two in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS)) and the rest one in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS).

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 92, 488 as 244 new cases were diagnosed in the last three days.

Out of the new cases, 125 infections were diagnosed on Saturday, 63 on Sunday and 56 on Monday.

The number of coronavirus variants in the country remained at 7624. Of them, 6, 259 are UK variants, 1,296 South African variants, 67 Indian variants and two Brazilian variants.

So far, 606 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS), 102 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 101 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS), 85 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), and 62 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 95 coronavirus patients, including 17 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the country.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1,670 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
