2 more deaths, 570 new coronavirus infections diagnosed in 1 week

The coronavirus death toll in the country has reached 969 as two more patients- one in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) and another in Turku Hospital District (TYKS)- died in the last one week since Thursday, 17 June, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Wednesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 94, 596 as 570 new cases were diagnosed in the last seven days.

Out of the new cases, 55 infections were diagnosed on Thursday, 73 on Friday, 115 on Saturday, 65 on Sunday, 45 on Monday, 110 on Tuesday and 107 on Wednesday.

The number of coronavirus variants in the country increased to 9139. Of them, 7,423 are Alfa variants, 1,410 Beta variants, five Gamma variants and 301 Delta variants.

So far, 614 people have died in the Helsinki-Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS, 104 in the Tampere-Pirkanmaa Hospital District (TAYS), 104 in the Turku Hospital District (TYKS), 85 in the Pohjois-Savo Hospital District (KYS), and 62 in the Pohjois-Pohjanmaa Hospital District (OYS).

A total of 33 coronavirus patients, including five in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the country.

According to the THL report, in relation to Finland’s total population (5,537,046), the prevalence of COVID-19 cases is 1,708 per 100,000 people.

Currently, laboratories in the country have the testing capacity of about 30,000 samples a day.
