7 more deaths, 5492 new coronavirus cases spotted in 24 hours

The country’s coronavirus death toll has reached 1599 as seven more patients died at different hospitals in the country in the last 24 hours, said the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 282,831 as 5492 new cases were diagnosed in that time.

A total of 398 coronavirus patients, including 53 in intensive care units (ICUs), are now undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the country.

Most of the new infections were diagnosed in the Helsinki and Uusimaa Hospital District (2,724), Pirkanmaa Hospital District (656) and Päijät-Häme Hospital District (280).

The number of coronavirus infections is increasing significantly in the country, particularly in the capital region during the recent period.

The Metropolitan Area coronavirus coordination group recommended that the ongoing regional restrictive measures be extended for two more weeks following the worsening coronavirus situation.
