Finland has received a batch of monkeypox vaccines as a donation through the EU joint procurement, said the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health in a press release on Wednesday.

The batch that arrived in Finland contains about 1,400 vaccine doses. The EU has procured vaccines for all Member States through joint procurement.

The vaccines will be distributed to the hospital districts, which are responsible for administering the vaccines.

The vaccine offers protection against monkeypox. The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) will soon issue recommendations concerning the priority groups of monkeypox vaccinations.

Those who are vaccinated do not spread the disease. So far, 26 confirmed cases of the monkeypox virus have been detected in Finland.

Monkeypox was added to the list of monitored communicable diseases on 1 July 2022.
