The Helsinki University Hospital (Helsingin yliopistollinen sairaala- HUS) ranked 50th in the list of the best hospitals in the world published by the US-based magazine Newsweek.
Three other Finnish hospitals-Turku University Hospital (121), Tampere University Hospital (126) and Kuopio University Hospital (196)- were also included in the list of the best 250 hospitals.
The Newsweek listed the 250 best hospitals among a total of 2,400 hospitals in 30 countries based on patient surveys and quality of care.
The list includes hospitals that provide efficient and high-quality care and are recommended by both healthcare professionals and patients.
Mayo Clinic – Rochester hospital in USA has topped in the list followed by Cleveland Clinic (USA), Toronto General - University Health Network (Canada), The Johns Hopkins Hospital (USA) and Massachusetts General Hospital (USA).
Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin in Germany secured 6th place in the list and became the best hospital in Europe while Karolinska Universitetssjukhuset in Sweden and AP-HP - Hôpital Universitaire Pitié Salpêtrière in France secured second and third places respectively in Europe with global rankings of 7th and 8th.
“Each hospital's score is based on an online survey of more than 85,000 medical experts and public data from post-hospitalization patient surveys on their general satisfaction. The score also considers metrics on things like hygiene and patient/doctor ratio as well as a Statista survey on whether hospitals use Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs), which are standardized questionnaires completed by patients to assess their experience and results,” said Nancy Cooper, Global Editor in Chief of Newsweek.
