Recount confirms SDP's top spot in parliamentary polls

A vote recount conducted on Monday confirmed Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland -SDP) lead at the top in the aftermath of the 2019 parliamentary election, reported national broadcaster quoting sources at the Ministry of Justice.

The recount confirmed SDP had won 3 seats in the Satakunta district albeit by very slim margins.

According to the report, if 100 additional votes had gone to Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party of Finland), SDP’s lead would have been slashed by a single seat thus eroding its one seat advantage over second place Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party).

The outcome which would have resulted with the two parties being tied at 39 seats would have changed the picture with regard to the formation of the government, said the report.

SDP emerged top in the elections with 40 seats.
