Prime Minister and Chairman of the Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party of Finland) Juha Sipilä on Tuesday announced that he will not continue as the party chair following the performance of his party in the outgoing parliamentary polls held on Sunday.

"The poll results did not keep any option for me,” Sipilä disclosed the decision in his blog.

Pointing out the debacle of his party in the polls results, he said that the ever-worst performance of the party prompt him to take the decision.

The Keskusta Chairman said that he already asked the party high-up to convene a special council on September 7 to elect a new Chairman.

Sipilä, however, said that he will continue as the party chair until the election of the new leader.

Suomen Keskusta won 31 seats in the elections with 13.8% votes.
