ROK President to visit Finland on June 9-11

President of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Moon Jae-in will pay a state visit to Finland with his spouse Kim Jung-sook on 9-11 June 2019.

The visit will be hosted by President Sauli Niinistö together with First Lady Jenni Haukio, said a press release issued by the president office.

Niinistö and Haukio will receive the guests at an official welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace on June 10.

People may follow the welcoming ceremony from the Market Square at around 10 a.m. if the weather is favourable.

After the welcoming ceremony, the Presidents will hold their official discussions. Topics will include bilateral relations between Finland and the Republic of Korea, regional issues and global multilateral cooperation. Following their discussions, the Presidents will hold a joint press conference.

Moon Jae-in also attend a lunch provided by the City of Helsinki, a meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament and a visit to Aalto University.

Kim Jung-sook will visit the New Children’s Hospital and Design Museum with Jenni Haukio.

On June 11, President Moon Jae-in will meet the Prime Minister at his Official Residence, Kesäranta. He will also speak in a business forum at Paasitorni Congress Centre together with President Niinistö and lay a wreath at the Hietaniemi Cemetery.

The previous presidential visit from South Korea to Finland took place in 2006 when President Tarja Halonen hosted the state visit by President Roh Moo-hyun.

President Niinistö last visited South Korea when he attended the international Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul in 2012.
