26 killed in road mishaps in May

At least 26 people were killed and 487 others injured in 404 road accidents across the country during May this year, according to the Statistics Finland.
According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, the number of deaths was eight higher and the number of injured was 98 lower than in May 2016.
Of the persons who were killed, 20 travelled by passenger car, one by motorcycle and one by lorry.
Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered three and cyclists one. Among those who died, 20 were men and six were women.
A total of 1,571 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to May period.
In them, 91 persons were killed and 2,000 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 10 higher and that of persons injured 35 lower than in the corresponding period of 2016.
Of the persons who were killed, 56 travelled by passenger car, five by van, one by moped, one by motorcycle and four by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered 13 and cyclists four. In addition, seven other road users were killed.
