Several present and former top ranking officers of Helsinki police are suspected of offences related to the proper registration of names of sources, said a press release of the office of the Prosecutor General on Wednesday.
The Prosecutor General office is investigating into the allegation related to the name source data used in investigations from 2008 to 2013.
The prosecutor’s office is probing into the activities of the top police officials including former National Police Commissioner Mikko Paatero, incumbent Chief of Helsinki police Lasse Aapio and former commander of Helsinki police Jukka Riikonen.
The investigation began since the former Interior Minister Päivi Räsänen initiated the preliminary investigation on November 21, 2013 after former Chief of the Helsinki Drug Unit Police Jari Aarnio was convicted of various charges.
The prosecutor's office prepared a 6,000 pages investigation reports in this regard.
The prosecutor said that the police officials are suspected of neglecting to register names of the sources during their investigations, although the source name must be written correctly in the database according to the law.
