Two people, reportedly asylum seekers stabbed themselves in front of the parliament building on Friday afternoon.
Police said that the incident took place after 1pm and both of the wounded were taken to a city hospital.
Police, however, does not suspect any crime at this stage, a police press release said, adding that the nationality or nationalities of them could not be known immediately.
“The police have been asked about the health of these two people. However, the police cannot tell any health related information due to the Finnish confidentiality law,” said Chief Inspector Riku Korpela from Helsinki Police Department Operational Command Centre.
“Today, there was also a demonstration organized by Kurds. This demonstration had nothing to do with these stabbings,” Korpela added.
Parliament security chief Jukka Savola said to National Broadcaster Yle that both men were reportedly in possession of yellow identity cards issued by an asylum seeker reception centre in Finland.
