Govt discusses supplementary budget

The government, during discussion of the third supplementary budget proposal on Tuesday, proposed among other things supplementary appropriations for innovation activities and digitalization, retraining and support to farmers.

Over 30 million euros has been proposed for shipbuilding innovation support. This will enable the shipbuilding industry to invest in innovation and strengthen international competitiveness. A further 40 million euros additional appropriation in grants has been proposed to go to the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (Tekes).

Due to improvement of the economic development, the number of job openings especially those which require special skills are growing. The government has proposed 10 million euros for retraining of highly educated persons.

The government also proposed 25 million euros to farmers who are suffering from poor harvest situations.

Furthermore, the government also proposed additional appropriations for promotion of tourism and also appropriations to cover for increased expenditure in reception centres arising from the great number of users.

The proposal will be submitted before parliament on October 19.
