Kokoomus supports Niinistö in Presidential polls

Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party) has extended support to Sauli Niinistö for his second bid for presidency, reported local media MTV news.

The chair of the party Petteri Orpo revealed the decision during his speech at a party council meeting on Saturday.

The decision to support the current president’s bid was an easy one, Orpo revealed.

Orpo also explained the party's stand referring to Niinistö's “foreign and security policy expertise” and whose worth has also been reflected in actions.

In August, Suomen Kristillisdemokraatit (Christian Democrats of Finland) also supported the second term of the current president.

Niinistö had announced that he will seek re-election as an independent candidate via the constituency assembly. The presidential polls are scheduled for January 2018.
