Border Guard investigating wolf shooting

A wolf was on Saturday shot to death in conjunction with moose hunting in Kuhmo, said the Finnish Border Guard.

According to the Border Guard, the hunting group had a valid permit to hunt moose north of Kuhmo.

The hunting group reported that one member of their group shot the moose in order to protect a hunting dog owned by the shooter.

The Kainuu Border Guard is investigating the accident as aggravated hunting crime since a wolf is animal which can be pacified.

According to the shooter, the wolf and the dog had been in contact at the time of the shooting.

The Border Guard is continuing with investigations through technical examinations and interrogations.
