Finnish Border Guard arrested a German national while crossing the Finnish-Russian border illegally at the Nuijamaa crossing point on Monday afternoon, said the Border Guard in a press release on Tuesday.
A patrol of Southeast Finland Border Guard found the man at the Russian side of the border crossing point and ordered him to come back to the Finnish side and arrested him on suspicious border crime.
Earlier, the man riding a bicycle failed to cross the border despite repeated attempts as the authority refused his entry without a valid passport and Russian visa, said the Border Guard after preliminary investigation.
At certain stage he left the bicycle and walked about two kilometers through the forest and reached to the Russian side at border crossing.
The Border Guard filed border offence charge against him and placed him before South Karelia District Court.
The Finnish authority also discussed the issue with the Russian border authorities in the Vyborg (Viipuri) region.
