Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto on Monday assured Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky to continue Finland´s firm support to Ukraine.

Haavisto at a meeting with Zelensky in Kyiv also said that the efforts to hold Russia accountable for war crimes will continue, according to a twitter post of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

“Honored to meet President @ZelenskyyUa today (Monday). I confirmed our firm support for Ukraine fighting against Russia’s brutal aggression. We continue efforts to hold Russia accountable for war crimes and targeting of civilians,” the Ministry wrote in the twitter post, quoting Haavisto as saying.

Haavisto visited Kyiv together with Nordic and Baltic foreign ministers. In Kyiv, the foreign ministers of Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden met Zelensky and the Foreign Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and other representatives of the Ukrainian government, said the ministry in a press release.

The purpose of the joint visit was to reaffirm their countries’ firm support to Ukraine following Russia’s illegal invasion.

One of the topics of the visit was Ukraine’s need for assistance and support. Russia has continued its missile barrage against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which aggravates the need for immediate support. Accountability matters associated with Russia’s illegal aggression against Ukraine were another topic of discussion in Kyiv.

“Finland strongly condemns Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine. We will continue our firm support to Ukraine as long as necessary,” said Haavisto.
