Tsikhanouskaya urges PM to provide support to repressed Belarusians

Belarusian opposition leader, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya on Tuesday met with Prime Minister Sanna Marin in Helsinki and urged Finland to provide assistance to repressed Belarusians, human rights activists and independent media.

The Premier welcomed the Belarusian opposition leader and discussed means to support people of Belarus and importance of having the situation in the country on international agenda, said the Finnish government in a twitter post after the meeting.

“Warm meeting with Finnish PM Sanna Marin today (Tuesday) in Helsinki. As we continue our fight for freedom, I asked Finland to provide assistance to repressed Belarusians, human rights activists & independent media,” Tsikhanouskaya wrote in her twitter after the medeting.

“Today, not only our democracy but the very existence of Belarus is at stake,” wrote the Belarusian opposition leader.

The Belarusian opposition leader, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya on Tuesday started her two days visit to Helsinki on at the invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto.

During her visit, Tsikhanouskaya is also scheduled to meet with President Sauli Niinistö, Speaker of Parliament Matti Vanhanen, as well as members of the delegations of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament, the Council of Europe and the Nordic Council.
